
If so, you might well want to have a convenient shortcut to Gmail on your desktop – you know, just like the one that used to go to Outlook Express, all those years ago? In fact, for those changing over to an online email system like Gmail from Windows Mail or a similar desktop email app, having an email icon in the task bar is a nice bit of convenience. Make sure that notifications are allowed in Windows System settings.Let’s assume you’re using Windows, and, like us monkeys at Pinkeye Graphics, you also use Gmail for email. Enable notifications for all emails or just for important emails. To get notifications, open Gmail > Settings > See all settings and, under General look for Desktop notifications. Then open App Management ( copy-paste chrome://apps/ in the Address bar), right-click on Gmail, and select Remove from Chrome. If you want to remove Gmail PWA, delete shortcuts and unpin Gmail from the taskbar. Click App info and make sure that Gmail is allowed to send notifications.

Open Gmail from the taskbar and click on the 3-dots menu.If you don’t see this option on Windows 11, click Show more options at the bottom. Right-click on the newly-created Gmail shortcut and choose Pin to taskbar.You should see the shortcut on your desktop.
